It’s no secret that global CO2 emissions are increasing at an alarming rate. Annual greenhouse gas emissions have approximately doubled over the past 50 years to over 35 gigatons per year. The path that the world currently is on is unsustainable and unwise.
We believe everyone has the right to clean, sustainable and modern energy.
Our perovskite technology is paving the way to more accessible, affordable and scalable renewable energy that will reduce emissions and change the status quo of the global energy system, providing a powerful climate change solution.
Our Commitments to a Cleaner World
Making a positive impact for our communities is fundamental to who we are at Solaires. We believe that business can be a force for good an dback up our words with action.
We Are a Carbon Neutral Company
Solaires Entreprises Inc. is committed to keeping our own carbon footprint low as we develop our technology and grow as a business. As of 2022, Solaires became a carbon neutral company after measuring our first company greenhouse gas inventory, implementing a decarbonization plan and offsetting unavoidable emissions through Ostrom Climate, Canada’s leading carbon management solutions provider.
Ostrom Climate’s carbon offset projects are verified and validated by third parties to ensure that the emission reductions are real, additional and permanent. The Climate Action portfolio that we support consists of a mix of high-quality offsets developed to best-in-class standards from Canada and around the world, and create both environmental benefits and additional social benefits for the communities surrounding them. Supporting the Circular Economy
We are committed to a circular economy approach and creating sustainable solutions that minimize negative environmental impacts. We are focused on developing a product that reduces waste and pollution in its original design by using recycled materials in our manufacturing process. Solaires is also committed to building a responsible supply chain by carefully selecting our suppliers using a screening process that makes sure they are engaged in environmental leadership and sustainability practices.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Our impact extends beyond sustainability. Solaires is an open and equal opportunity employer that values diversity of backgrounds and perspectives. We strive to create a company culture where all employees feel included, respected and valued. We are very proud to be a women-led company, continually challenging the status quo around diversity and supporting women in STEM (Science, technology, engineering and mathematics). Our multiculturalism fuels our innovation and connects us closer to our customers and the communities we serve.
Solaires seeks to build long-lasting partnerships within our communities and participate in added-value investments into the community. We strive to support initiatives that share a vision for a cleaner world and improved access to reliable and affordable sources of energy. Some of our community engagement programs include our Employee Volunteer Program, corporate giving, and partnerships with local post-secondary institutions.
We believe every company has the responsibility to advance sustainable development and contribute to better lives for people today and tomorrow. As a purpose-driven company, we use the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a key framework in guiding our impact strategies and corporate direction. These are the main SDGs we strive to directly contribute to and advance:
We directly impact SDG 7 through our clean energy innovation research, product development and advocacy for renewable energy solutions. Specifically, we aim to advance access to affordable, reliable, and modern energy services (target 7.1), increase the share of renewable energy in the global energy (target 7.2), and significantly improve energy efficiency rates (target 7.3).
Reversing the climate crisis requires reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and the amount of greenhouse gas emissions released into the atmosphere. We are taking climate action through our perovskite technology that has significantly lower lifecycle emissions compared to fossil fuels, designing our product to reduce resource intensity and raising awareness and capacity for climate change mitigation and adaptation (target 13.3).
By 2050, 70 percent of the world’s population will live in cities, making cities critical in achieving a sustainable future for the world. Our product will revolutionize the way energy is converted into electricity, thereby increasing the capacity for sustainable urban development (target 11.3) and reducing the adverse environmental impact of cities (target 11.6).
Sustainability is all about reducing inequalities and strengthening the capacity of vulnerable communities to face existing and future challenges. In line with SDG 10, we are working to improve access to energy, support equal opportunity and reduce inequalities (target 10.3) and empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all irrespective of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic or other status (target 10.2).
